The Philippine's dream to qualify in the 2014 FIFA World Cup lives on, as the Philippine National Football Team Azkals blanked the Sri Lanka Brave Reds in the 2nd Leg of 2014 World Cup Asian qualifying match , 4-0 Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
First to score for the Philippine Azkals was midfielder Chieffy Caligdongwho nailed a goal in the 19th minute of the 1st half of the game. Caligdong struck the ball towards the right of goal keeper Manjula Fernando when the ball hit the right bar first before it entered the goal.
Striker Phil Younghusband never disappointed the Filipinos as he scored thePhilippine Azkals' 2nd goal in the 43rd minute of the game giving a 2-0 advantage over the Sri Lanka Brave Reds with the cheering from the Filipino fans including actress Angel Locsin whom he is being linked with.
In the second half at the 50th minutes of the game, striker Angel Guiradonailed the Philippine Azkals' third goal on a pass from James Youghusband. Guarido was able to get passed Sri Lanka goal keeper Fernando for an open goal that gave the team a 3-0 advantage.
The fourth goal came from a penalty kick fired by Phil Younghusband in the 57th minute of the game, this time with the Sri Lanka Brave Reds still scoring nothing.
During the first leg of Philippine Azkals vs. Sri Lanka which was held in Colombo, they were draw in 1-1, but after the second leg it ended in a 5-1 aggregate score in favor of the Philippine National Football team.
The Philippine Azkals' victory gave them the ticket to the 2nd round of the World Cup qualifying tournament and will face Kuwait on July 23 and July 28 on a home and away game. GO AZKALS!!!
